Art, Passion, & a Whole Lot of Waffles!

I love it here. My Airbnb is in a perfect location. I am staying where the local’s stay, surrounded my local eateries and shops.

.5 miles in one direction is an amazing district in which the Grand Palace is – The City Center.  .5 miles in the other direction is the train station and more New York City-esque – with the long blocks and lots of foot traffic.

Today, I walked 7 miles exploring. My day began with a City Sightseeing Tour. I was freezing my ass off because it was windy and raining, so I decided to just sit and listen. Tomorrow, I will actually explore the sites I want to see. I learned a lot of cool facts about Brussels/Belgium, and I also realized just how big this city is and jammed packed with history. Holy Guacamole.

When the tour was over, I walked back to my Airbnb to get extra jackets. It worked out well because when I left again, I wasn’t cold nor hot. I was just comfortable. Comfortable enough to walk 7 miles and 23 flights of stairs per my Apple Health App. I don’t doubt it. I ended up all over the damn place. I remember at one point I was in the Art District and I was thinking….”How did I make it here?!” I remembered seeing it on the tour and thinking I would definitely go there tomorrow via bus because it was far….yet, I made it there on my own accord while exploring. Awesome!

The City Center is absolutely breath taking. It’s surrounded by historic architecture, 100’s of shops, chocolate factories, and did I mention, chocolate factories. There were Belgium waffles every way you looked. I didn’t get to enjoy one today because I was saving my appetite, but I will definitely have one tomorrow!

I spent a good 3-4 hours exploring this area. And, I will go back and explore more shops  before I leave Brussels. It was so much fun. The cobblestone pathways and live music really makes you feel like you’re not in Kansas anymore. Breathtaking!

The Art District was…cool. I’m not one for art. While I appreciate it and I enjoy looking at it, I don’t geek out over it. I didn’t get many pictures because I figured my shitty iPhone would not do the art justice. While I am not an art person, I would recommend the art district to anyone who visits Brussels. It’s full of history and awesome items to both view and shop. I enjoyed the stroll.

The other area I explored was that around the train station. Again, this is the NYC-esque portion of Brussels (but not nearly as extravagant). It was…boring honestly. I didn’t venture a whole bunch but one thing I did notice was a Casino. Oh, did I mention there was a Casino? There was a Casino. I am going to go before I leave.

At the end of my night, I got kicked out of some place. I am going to save that for another post because that was just too funny to put into this already great post. Stay tuned!

I had a jammed packed and awesome day exploring Brussels today. I can’t wait to do more specific things tomorrow 🙂

XOXO,
